Hi! My name is Töre. No, I’m not from Sweden. I was born in Istanbul (or Constantinople, but don’t say it out loud). I grew up watching my dad build his own integrated amplifier in the bedroom. His years long work-in-progress was finally concluded once my mom decided to throw it all in the trash container while dad was away.
Fast forward… I decided to join forces with my dad to fight my mom’s hostility against DIY projects. So I got accepted to Design of Audio Arts bachelor program in Yıldız Technical University in 2011. Next year, one day my classmate/friend asked me if I’d like to help him with a gig in the music café where he worked as sound technician. When I arrived the soundcheck had just finished. My friend told me: “Look, these faders are for drums, these are bass and guitar, and this one is vocal. Those are aux sends for monitors and effects. I have a bigger gig somewhere else, so I must go.” And he took off. Clueless and terrified, I did my first gig.
Since then, I’ve worked in many concert and theater venues and toured with music bands. After all, I’m grateful to my dad, for passing his enthusiasm to me. Because what a privilege it is, to do what you love and get paid for it.
